PageRank & Website Marketing
Links
A popular webpage will have many links pointing to it from external and related ecommerce web sites. It is seen by search engines as a measure of the importantce of your website and is taken into account when google calulates its measure of website relevancy called pagerank. If you have the Google toolbar installed with advanced features enabled on your browser you can see your site's PageRank score when you visit it.
The most important factor in getting others to link to your site is having a site worthy of a link. In other words, have a site or page that a directory editor or site owner thinks would be of benefit to their audience.
How Important Is Page-Rank?
Pagerank is much less important today as a factor in search engine positionings than it was prior to 2006 and it is not unusual for high pagerank sites to rank lower than low pagerank sites in SERPS. Nevertheless, a pagerank of one or two should be expected of the homepage of a small and relatively new online shop website that has been live for around half a year.
Pay Per Click
Adverts from relevant websites can be a quick and easy way of generating quality traffic to your site. Google offers an advertising scheme on a pay per click basis via adwords and adsence and is the main means of advertising webpages for ecommerce solutions outside of organic search engine optimisation. Pay per click does not affect organic search results as the inbound links are usually displayed in a dedicated advertisement division of the SERPs.
