There is potentially a long list of keywords that your website should rank for but it is not always possible or desirable to have a page on each keyword within the main navigation of your site. This is why it is useful to have optimised content pages either from within your site or in an external rankbuilder site.

What are optimised content pages?

Optimised information pages are completely search engine friendly. They contain optimised content (content to be supplied by you, if needed we will tweak the content to be more search engine friendly) and are optimised using up to date SEO methods, which include

  • Keyworded filenames
  • Optimised meta and alt tags
  • Keyworded Heading tags
  • External linking to CSS and JavaScript (if used)
  • Interlinking of pages via keywords (if applicable)
  • Any additional areas which will make the code clean and more accessible

What are the content pages used for and how do they work?

Content pages are designed for humans to read but take into account the many factors that a search engine would use to decide how important the page is to that particular keyword.

Because these pages are keyword oriented, they are more likely to appear highly in the search engine listings if a user searches for that content page's targeted keyphrase than if the keyword appeared on an unoptimised page of your site.

Once the pages are ranking high in the search engines, if a searcher decides to click on the link in the search results and visits that page, they will be greeted with the content page. From here they can navigate to other parts of the site or read the content provided on the page.

Where appropriate we will add call to action points, which will draw the visitor’s attention to certain areas of the site.

How do I write content for these pages?

There is a myth that pages need a certain amount of keyword density to rank but this results in keyword repetition which if taken too far may do more harm than good.

If you want to rank highly on google, content should be written with users in mind, it should descibe your business’ activities and the activities based around the keyword you are targeting. Most importantly, it needs to be original content and not duplicated from your main site.

We recommend you write content for just 1 keyword first and then email that over to us, so we can check and make sure the type of content your are writing is acceptable.

How many times should I mention the keyword?

There is no exact science to how many times you should mention the keyword. As long as the exact keyword is mentioned a couple of times throughout the copy, then its suffcient. You shouldn’t write the content, purposely trying to fit in the keyword, if it reads correctly then use it, if not then just leave it out.

As a guide we suggest that if you provide around 250 words 4-7 mentions of the keyword will be sufficient.

How much Content do I need to write?

Ideally 250-500 words should be added to each content page, this will provide the search engines with enough informaton to let them know the theme of the page and the words the page is wanting to rank for.

Can I use the same content for different pages?

No. If the same content is used the search engines can pick the pages up as being too similar and penalise them for duplicate content. The more disalike the content is the better. Similar sentences can be used aslong as the exact structure isnt copied and keywords aren’t just replaced. Try to kep the content at least 70% different.

Example of a working content page (ranking correct on Jan 2008)

1) Somebody goes to Google and types in “vending refreshment solutions ”
2) Ranking at No 1 is the following listing:

vending refreshment solutions, cappresso coffee, can machines

Vending machine company in UK providing an extensive choice of vending refreshment solutions which fulfills the requirements of most businesses.

3) They click that link.

4) This takes them to the content page created for the keyword “cold drink dispensers”, on this page there is useful content the visitor could read but most importantly there is the main navigation of the site and a link encouraging the visitor to click here – this will take them to the part of the existing site which relates to this keyword. Below is the content page:
