White Hat SEO Techniques
Search engine optimisation (SEO) includes a variety of techniques to improve the content and design of a website to draw more search engine traffic and links from other sites. While there are many methods to attempt to achieve high search engine results, there are two broad ways to attempt to achieve that. One way involves ethical practices and seeks to make search engines perform better and to contribute meaningful information to the web, this is known as White Hat SEO.
The other method involves generating large quantities of error free and keyword rich content that floods search engines in an attempt to get as much money from ad revenue as possible. These techniques do not care about providing meaningful content for the internet, and thrive on employing new and better tricks to achieve high ranking on search engines. This type of search engine optimisation is known as Black Hat SEO.
The hat motif comes from old spaghetti westerns where the bad boy always wore a black hat, and the good cowboy sported a white hat. White hat SEO isn't as fast to generate hits as black hat, but the slow building popularity of white hat practices often pays off in the long run. The main philosophy behind white hat SEO is simply to provide a useful, well constructed web site full of useful commentary or information. When your website has a high quality, it will be linked to other high quality sites, it will gain a slow to grow, but loyal fan base, and search engines will notice and promote your site to a high rank. White hat SEO help search engines work better.
Black hat SEO try to manipulate the system purely for their own benefit, and search engines constantly have to hire new people to help them combat black hat tactics. When black hats infiltrate a search engine's results, web users will become frustrated with the lack of information found through that particular engine, and will look for another, more useful search engine to use. This requires search engines to always be on their toes to thwart black hats, and to make it easier for relevant and quality web sites to rank high.
While black hats are often scammers, spammers, and con artists looking to make an easy buck, white hat search engine optimisation is for websites that want to be found, but their sole purpose is not to generate traffic just to fool people. White hat optimisation's most important techniques are simply to build an excellent web site. This site must have well-written content, an attractive design, and easy to use navigation. There must be a higher purpose behind the white hat site, and every move to improve the site will ultimately help generate more links and more search results. It can sometimes be frustrating in the beginning to have a quality site that's generating few hits. After all, you didn't pour all of your time into the site just for yourself. You can ethically promote your site by looking for other quality sites, and linking to them. You can also help promote your site by contributing meaningful comments on other web sites that you respect. But, don't be tempted to leave meaningless messages that simply promote your site. This is detracting from the overall quality of the entire web, and could be considered spam. Don't compromise your self or your site by succumbing to black hat practices.
